Spiced Honey Lemon Tea

Ingredients (all chosen for their nutrient-rich qualities, along with good flavor)

3 tbsp honey

1/2 tsp ground ginger or

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cardamom

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1 lemon wedge, you just need a squeeze!

  • Honey — I used regular pure, unfiltered local honey and Ambrosia Pure Honey. I initially purchased both at LifeSource Natural Foods, but found a better bulk price on Amazon.

Mix all ingredients together in a cup and mix with hot water.  Slowly sip on this delicious drink. It is especially beneficial right before bedtime.

  • Warning:  Never give honey to a child younger than age 1 due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious form of food poisoning.

Vitamin D supplementation helps to reduce asthma, COPD, and other lung problems

Previous studies have delved into this very matter, with results showing that vitamin D plays a significant role in boosting respiratory health. One finding, for example, honed in on “the known effects of vitamin D on immune function… in relation to respiratory health.” Its population-based study concluded that “Vitamin D appears capable of inhibiting pulmonary inflammatory responses while enhancing innate defense mechanisms against respiratory pathogens.”

In addition to boosting the immune system overall, vitamin D was found to improve lung function in those suffering from respiratory-inflammation conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

To ensure proper vitamin D levels, the Mayo Clinic says that the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for adults is 600 IU. For adults older than 70, then 800 IU of vitamin D should be consumed.

Since the half life of vitamin D is about 21 days, it can take 6 months to get your blood work to about 95% of where it should be.

Only 1000 IU/day of D3 would apparently cut cancer rates by 50% a year in the US in 5 years. (note: use vitamin D3)

A recipe to improve your immune system
Most people know that the best defense against sickness is a good immune system. The immune system can knock out almost any disease if it is kept in good shape by proper nutrition. Here is the famous “Doc Shillington’s Total Tonic Recipe” to improve your immune system.

  • 1 handful of garlic cloves
    •1 handful of chopped onions
    •1 handful of chopped ginger
    •1 handful of chopped horseradish
    •1/2 handful of chopped habanera peppers
    •Raw apple cider vinegar

Throw in a blender and cover with an inch or two of organic raw apple cider vinegar. All ingredients should be organic, but don’t let that stop you from making this great formula (as long as the garlic is not from China). You can use the mash right away or wait two weeks and allow it to turn into a tincture.

 

At the first sign of cold or flu, take a tablespoon (or more!) every 4 hours until relief. Or use daily as a hot sauce or vinegar on salads, etc.

Iranian researchers say a simple Asian seed may be able to drop your blood pressure like a stone in eight weeks without a single side effect!

In their double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study (the gold standard of research), scientists asked 70 volunteers between the ages of 34 and 63 with high blood pressure to spend eight weeks supplementing with Nigella sativa seed oil or placebo.

Nigella sativa is a gorgeous flowering plant that grows across Asia, and you may have heard its seeds called “black seed” or “black cumin.” There’s an ancient Islamic saying that black cumin can cure everything but death itself, and it’s been used for centuries to treat everything from cancer to food allergies.

Well, once again, black cumin didn’t disappoint. The volunteers who took just 5 mL. of black cumin oil daily slashed BOTH their systolic and diastolic blood pressure in just eight weeks, faring much better than the unlucky folks who just took a placebo.

And that’s not all. Throughout the entire two months, not a single side effect was reported.

Iodine offers a serious and potent replacement for much of the antibiotics that are literally destroying people’s lives and can be used safely with children. Parents, who chose not to dose their kids with dangerous vaccines will be glad to know that iodine can be very effective against a host of viral infections that medical officials insist threaten children and adults.

Though it kills 90 percent of bacteria on the skin within 90 seconds, its use as an antibiotic has been ignored. Iodine exhibits activity against bacteria, molds, yeasts, protozoa, and many viruses; indeed, of all antiseptic preparations suitable for direct use on humans and animals and upon tissues, only iodine is capable of killing all classes of pathogens: gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses and protozoa. Most bacteria are killed within 15 to 30 seconds of contact.

Iodine kills single celled organisms by combining with the amino acids tyrosine or histidine when they are exposed to the extra-cellular environment. All single cells showing tyrosine on their outer cell membranes are killed instantly by a simple chemical reaction with iodine that denatures proteins. Nature and evolution have given us an important mechanism to control pathogenic life forms and we should use it and trust it to protect us in ways that antibiotics can’t.

Yes in dire emergency we can still use an antibiotic when all else has failed but until that kind of critical point, iodine can be the main line of defense against a full range of pathogens.

The way to combat antibiotic resistance is not bigger, better, stronger antibiotics but, rather, no antibiotics at all. Instead, other molecular weapons are available with the ability to disable bad germs without bothering good ones. Iodine is the ideal broad spectrum antibiotic that is not an antibiotic – it is not against life. Not against human life that is but you can hear the little pathogens screaming as high enough levels of iodine fan out through the system.

Meaning all the viruses, bacteria, yeasts and molds that are threatening us are threatened with instant death when iodine is used orally to fight infection. It’s hard to make a mistake with iodine but with pharmaceutical antibiotics we are playing at the crap table hoping our choice of which one to use works against the pathogen that is actually threatening a person.

  1. In general, foods from the sea contain the most iodine, followed by animal foods, and then plant foods. Of all foods seaweed, like kelp, is the most famous and reliable source of natural iodine, however egg and dairy products can also be good sources.
  2. Iodine is an essential mineral that’s vital to the proper functioning of the thyroid. The thyroid gland is responsible for managing growth and metabolism. An iodine deficiency can cause symptoms such as fatigue, high cholesterol, lethargy, depression, and swelling of the thyroid gland. Prevent this dangerous deficiency by eating the right amount of iodine rich foods each day.

A study from the highly respected Journal of Infectious Diseases found that zinc acetate lozenges (and you should always look for zinc acetate) can slash the length of your cold nearly in half, from seven days to four. The lozenges can even reduce days spent coughing from five to two.

Because zinc works by preventing viruses from replicating, you’ll find that zinc products work best when you start taking them during the first 24 hours of your symptoms.

This milk is best taken before sleep as it will make you very relaxed and extremely sleepy. It is so easy to make too.

There are countless benefits of taking turmeric and those benefits include cancer tumors, inflammation, arthritis, knee and elbow pain and more. Turmeric is also used for Alzheimer’s Disease combined with vitamin D3.

Turmeric is very healthy and wonderful to help you relax and sleep better. Turmeric, however is a very valuable spice and has a lot more to it than just to help you relax.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s Turmeric Milk recipe.

Ingredients:
1 cup almond milk
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon ginger

Directions: Sip slowly before sleep.

1) Heat the almond milk on the stove. When milk becomes warm, add turmeric powder. Stir slowly to dissolve any lumps. The liquid will take on a rich, mustard color.
2) Add the honey, ginger root, vanilla and spices.
3) Keep the pot on gentl
e heat for a few minutes.
4) Pour the milk through a fine sieve to remove the ginger root, cardamom and pepper. (The turmeric can be a bit grainy, too.)
5) Enjoy!

Iodine
200 micrograms (mcg) is a reasonable dose to maintain optimal thyroid function. There are signals that your body may be giving you that suggest when your thyroid needs help, including fatigue, achiness, weight gain, low body temperature and cold intolerance. If you suspect your thyroid isn’t functioning optimally (e.g., if you have two or more of these signs), consider taking 6.25-12.5 milligrams (12,500 mcg) of iodine daily for one to two months to see if you feel better. Don’t take a higher dosage unless under a health practitioner’s supervision.

Selenium
50-100 mcg daily (but not more than 300-400). In a 2011 study in the medical journal Clinical Laboratory, those with the lowest blood levels of selenium had the unhealthiest thyroids.[1] This is because selenium is critical in turning inactive T4 hormone into active T3 hormone.

Tyrosine
500-1,000 milligrams (mg) daily. This amino acid is what thyroid hormone is made from. Just add three iodine molecules to one tyrosine and you have a molecule of T3 hormone!
